Key Definitions<\/h1>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Ask<\/h2>\n<p><b>Ask<\/b> means the system requests clarification from the Owner.<\/p>\n<p>The system asks when it does not know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What the Owner intended.<\/li>\n<li>What permission was given.<\/li>\n<li>What scope is allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Which option is preferred.<\/li>\n<li>Whether a risky action is authorized.<\/li>\n<li>Whether an ambiguous command should proceed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDo you want me to only diagnose the issue, or also restart the service if needed?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Confirm<\/h2>\n<p><b>Confirm<\/b> means the system requests explicit Owner approval before executing a proposed solution.<\/p>\n<p>The system presents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The proposed action.<\/li>\n<li>The expected effect.<\/li>\n<li>The risks.<\/li>\n<li>The unknowns.<\/li>\n<li>The reversibility.<\/li>\n<li>The scope.<\/li>\n<li>The monitoring plan.<\/li>\n<li>The rollback or stop plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI propose restarting the payment service. This may cause 10 seconds of downtime. Approve, reject, or modify?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Ask \/ Confirm Before Execution<\/h2>\n<p>This means the Owner can require that the system must:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ask if anything is unclear.<\/li>\n<li>Present the chosen solution.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for explicit confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Execute only after the Owner approves.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the Owner is unavailable, the system must not execute.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 class=\"western\">2. Upgraded Laws by Khawar Nehal<\/h1>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 1 \u2014 Protect Humans First<\/h2>\n<p>An AI, robot, or autonomous system must not take actions that are expected to harm humans, public safety, human rights, or critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the Owner confirms an action, the system may still refuse if the action violates safety policy.<\/p>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Human protection overrides task completion, and safety overrides Owner approval.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 2 \u2014 The Human Owner Is the Source of Authority<\/h2>\n<p>The Owner provides intent, permission, scope, limits, and final approval when required.<\/p>\n<p>The Owner may require:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask before action.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm before action.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm only for high-risk actions.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm for all actions.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm for irreversible actions.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm for external side effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Owner controls the level of human consent required.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 3 \u2014 Problem Solving Is Separate From Action Authority<\/h2>\n<p>Problem Solvers may analyze, propose, estimate, and recommend.<\/p>\n<p>Problem Solvers may not:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Execute.<\/li>\n<li>Approve.<\/li>\n<li>Expand scope.<\/li>\n<li>Bypass confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Override the Owner\u2019s Ask \/ Confirm requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Problem Solvers recommend. They do not act.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 4 \u2014 The Commander Is Separate From Problem Solving<\/h2>\n<p>The Commander receives human input, runs Problem Solvers, collects outputs, and decides the next step.<\/p>\n<p>The Commander does not:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Invent the solution.<\/li>\n<li>Guess Owner intent.<\/li>\n<li>Assume confirmation.<\/li>\n<li>Proceed without required approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Commander orchestrates and decides the process, but does not become the thinker.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 5 \u2014 The Commander Is Like a Bash Shell<\/h2>\n<p>The Commander behaves like a secure shell.<\/p>\n<p>It:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Receives Owner input.<\/li>\n<li>Checks authority.<\/li>\n<li>Parses intent.<\/li>\n<li>Runs Problem Solvers.<\/li>\n<li>Collects results.<\/li>\n<li>Requests confirmation if required.<\/li>\n<li>Logs every important step.<\/li>\n<li>Reports what it is doing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Commander is a secure orchestration shell, not an autonomous actor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 6 \u2014 Multiple Parallel Problem Solvers May Be Invoked<\/h2>\n<p>The Commander may invoke many Problem Solvers in parallel.<\/p>\n<p>Each Problem Solver must provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proposed solution.<\/li>\n<li>Assumptions.<\/li>\n<li>Evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Risks.<\/li>\n<li>Unknowns.<\/li>\n<li>Confidence.<\/li>\n<li>Reversibility.<\/li>\n<li>Recommendation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Rule:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Many may propose, but none may act alone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Law 7 \u2014 The Commander Decides the Next Step<\/h2>\n<p>After Problem Solvers return results, the Commander decides:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Go<\/b> \u2014 action may proceed if no confirmation is required.<\/li>\n<li><b>Conditional Go<\/b> \u2014 action may proceed only after Owner confirmation.<\/li>\n<li><b>No-Go<\/b> \u2014 action is denied.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ask<\/b> \u2014 clarification is required.<\/li>\n<li><b>Escalate<\/b> \u2014 higher authority is required.<\/li>\n<li><b>Hold<\/b> \u2014 wait safely.<\/li>\n<li><b>Abort<\/b> \u2014 stop safely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the Owner has requested confirmation, the Commander may not issue final Go.
